Garwood Orchards
About This Spot
Stepping onto the grounds of Garwood Orchards is like slipping into a slower, gentler rhythm where the simple pleasures of the season come quietly into focus. Nestled just outside La Porte, this family-friendly farm and market unfolds with an inviting warmth that feels both familiar and fresh. The air carries the scent of ripe apples mingled with the earthiness of freshly turned soil, while soft chatter and laughter drift from the orchard paths and bustling produce stands.
Here, the pace encourages you to linger—whether that means meandering through rows of apple trees heavy with fruit, or hopping aboard a horse-drawn wagon that gently carries you across the farm’s charming landscape. It’s the kind of place where young and old find joy in discovery: picking fruit, spotting horses on a sunny afternoon, or simply wandering among vibrant mums and seasonal vegetables that speak of harvest time. The friendly faces behind the stands and in the shop add a layer of genuine hospitality that makes each visit feel personal, not hurried.
Garwood Orchards offers more than just fresh produce; it’s a mosaic of little moments that linger—the crisp snap of an apple bitten into on a chilly fall day, the sweet, fleeting warmth of a freshly made donut (a local favorite, though often snapped up quickly), or a cup of apple cider slushie that cools and refreshes as you explore. The variety and care reflected in every fruit, vegetable, and handcrafted apple pie reveal the orchard’s deep connection to the land and its guests.
Whether you’re making a yearly tradition of fruit picking, discovering new flavors at the farm stand, or simply soaking in the pastoral charm, Garwood Orchards invites you to slow down and savor the human moments woven through its fields. It’s a place where hospitality, harvest, and heartfelt welcome grow naturally together.

Excellent visit with the family! Lots of varieties of goodies at the market, I hear the donuts are to die-for (they were all out by the time we finished our time in the orchard)and the horse drawn wagons are simply charming! Not to mention the customer service! Jennifer was kind helpful knowledgeable good-natured. My family and I really enjoyed meeting her! The apples and the orchard were amazing we'll return next year for certain

I went apple picking on Sunday all the way from Chicago, and I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT. This orchard always exceeds my expectations. Staff are very nice, and they don’t make you pay tax there. The horses are an amazing attraction, and there’s also many fruits and vegetables to choose from. The shop has a variety from apple cider slushies to pies to zesty pickled garlic. I would really recommend the apple cider slushie since my family loved it, even my parents. Honestly, I loved picking the apples. Also, the Premier Honeycrisp apples was sweeter than the regular Honeycrisp apples. The bucket I bought that you see on my head in one of the photos was $40. i also just read another person’s review and they said there were apples littered all over the floor in the orchard. They blamed it on the management, but they’re actually wrong. It’s actually us, the visitors doing this. It’s just sometimes, the apple looks fresh on one side, but some people tend to be careless and always check if it’s a fresh apple AFTER picking it. They also usually throw the rotten apples away on the ground after picking it, so I’m just gonna clarify that.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is my second year visiting Garwood Orchards, and it has quickly become one of our favorite traditions! The farm is such an amazing place—beautiful, well-kept, and full of charm. Everyone who works here is so friendly and welcoming, which makes the whole experience even more enjoyable. The selection of fruit and vegetables is unbeatable. The apples are crisp and delicious, the peaches are juicy and full of flavor, and the berries are some of the best we’ve ever had. The fresh vegetables are just as impressive, making it the perfect spot for stocking up on farm-to-table goodness. And of course, no trip here would be complete without the apple cider donuts—they are out of this world! Soft, warm, and coated in just the right amount of sweetness, they’re worth the trip all on their own. We absolutely love it here and can’t wait to keep coming back year after year. Garwood Orchards is a true gem for families, friends, or anyone who enjoys the simple joy of fresh food and good company.

I have been coming to Garwood for many years and it has brought me so much joy and good fruits and veggies. I drive from Chicago at least 5 times a year for you pick. If I can eat more…I will come more often lol I missed the Upick green beans and the Japanese pepper days. First cherry pick this year and it was awesome!

Garwood Orchard is basically the Disneyland of fruit… except instead of Mickey Mouse you get peaches, peppers, and berries, and instead of rollercoasters you get a tractor ride that rattles your bones just enough to remind you that maybe it does count as an amusement ride. We went during peak season and wow—talk about options. Peaches, blackberries, raspberries, apples in more varieties than I knew existed, plus bell peppers, jalapeños, and tomatoes. If you’ve ever wanted to cosplay as a farmer for a day without actually having to water anything, this is your place. The farm store was the cherry (or should I say apple) on top. Do yourself a favor and get the glazed apple cider donut. The powdered and plain ones are fine, but the glazed is basically what happens when fall gives you a hug. They also have jams, honey, and other goodies if you want to pretend you “shopped local” instead of admitting you ate half your berries in the car ride home. The only reason it’s 4 stars and not 5? No rides for the kids—unless you count the tractor, which my kids insisted was the “country rollercoaster.” Still, super friendly staff, reasonable prices (about $25 for a peck of apples or peaches, $20 for a small berry basket), and a great way to spend the day. Would I come back? Absolutely. But maybe next time I’ll sneak in a funnel cake stand suggestion box.

I love picking my own vegetables and fruit. Apples raspberries, black berries, peppers, tomatoes and your own pumpkin. The strawberries were out of season when we made it. Great place to take your family.
